Sin is a transgression—a violation of God’s command.
We have already learned that Adam’s sin created a conscience (knowledge of good and evil) in Adam and Eve. In other words, they could now recognize when they sinned (when they were naked). As a result, God gave humans a set of laws they could obey so they would have a good conscience when they followed them. This is why God gave them standard laws through Moses.
Similar to the Garden of Eden, whenever they broke these laws, animal blood (skin) was used as a covering (as seen with the various burnt offerings of the Old Testament).
However, these laws could never destroy the factory of sin (spirit of sin) in man, as it is written, “The blood of bulls and goats can’t take away sins.” (Hebrews 10:4 NIV) In man, a force is causing him to sin and do what he does not want. Whenever he decides in his mind to obey the law, a force within fights him. (Romans 7:21–23 NIV; Romans 7:8 NIV) The situation is helpless, for he does not do what he intends to do. (Romans 7:24–25 NIV) Therefore, sin dwells in man’s soul, not in the law (Romans 7:7 NIV)—he was born with it (Psalms 51:5, KJV).
The spirit of sin produces evil works (sin) through him. That spirit is one with man’s spirit (evil daughter spirit). It is one with natural man; that’s why in the book of Revelation, it is said, “The mark (spirit) of the beast is as the number (spirit) of man.” (Revelation 13:18 NIV)
Man is naturally sinful (Romans 7:15 NIV); sin lives in him. (Romans 7:17 NIV)
As Paul said in Romans 7:7 (NIV), the law is not evil in itself for it was made to preserve the society and give hope to many.
The law cannot save humanity. (Hebrews 10:1–2 NIV) Therefore, the question remains: Who will save man from himself? The only One who can save man must be able to see clearly what is in him and know its exact location.
Previously, no one knew who the devil was nor where he hid. All humankind thought that he was another power that influenced our lives. Therefore, he could boast of his deeds because his identity was well hidden (a deep secret).
No one knew that the mother of sin (evil daughter spirit) was within man, which is why the Bible calls her “Mystery.” (Revelation 17:5 NIV) This evil daughter spirit (the evil conscience in man) is the cause of all humankind’s problems, such as sins, sorcery, and demonic oppressions, as she collaborates with all evil spirits (representing the merchants of the world) through the spirit of sin (devil) who is her life (groom).
However, woe to her, for the Branch of David’s line has seen her and has done what is just and right. (Jeremiah 33:15 NIV)
The Branch of David’s line became the groom to the good daughter spirit (good conscience) in man, giving life to the other conscience (person) in man as written, “The Spirit and the Bride say.” (Revelation 22:17 NIV) So, the good conscience in man (good daughter spirit) has received a Holy Groom (Holy Spirit) at repentance to form a new life in the man. The man became born again at repentance (Christian).
The evil nature in man’s soul was destroyed by fire on Passover night (repentance). Our repentance was a spiritual war, as it is written about the Passover, “Eat it with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; it is the LORD’s Passover.” (Exodus 12:11 NIV) Passover means the Lord passing over the good conscience or good daughter spirit (the firstborn of Israel) in man to destroy the evil daughter spirit in the man (the firstborn of Egypt) and so preventing man from dying physically at repentance (when the switch of persons takes place).
When we repent, the fire of the Holy Spirit destroys our sinful nature (the spirit of sin). As it says in Revelation 18:8 (NIV), “She will be consumed by fire.” She is destroyed in one day—the day of our repentance. (Revelation 18:8 NIV)
We overcame the enemy by the power of the Blood of the Lamb (Christ’s sacrifice) and by our testimony (confessing Christ as our Lord and Savior through repentance prayer) as stated in Revelation 12:11 (NIV). We did not cherish our sinful lives; instead, we died to sin to receive a new life in Jesus. As it is written, “They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death,” (Revelation 12:11 NIV) and “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” (Luke 9:24 NIV)
The Christian is a new person with a new identity—Christlike (Christ lives through them). Therefore, it is written, “Come out of her, my people,” so you will not share in her sin or receive any of her plagues. (Revelations 18:4 NIV)
Therefore, do not walk in the old mentality (come out of it), but put on a new conscience. Laws were given to enable people to have a good conscience, but Christ gave life to the good conscience in man. Therefore, we need no law but to walk with a good conscience in whatever we do.
So, God gave them standard laws because their conscience was evil, but He writes our laws in our conscience. (Hebrews 8:10 NIV) If the laws are in our mind, no one needs to tell another person that he has sinned but his conscience. (Hebrews 8:11 NIV) What you believe in your conscience to be evil, please do not do it, and vice versa.
Always walk with a good conscience (also known as the fear of God) as it is written, “Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16 NIV) This brings us to the types of sins.
